We have another “snow” day in Houston today! No, it’s snowing but it’s like 29 degrees. Some of my other blogger friends have been sharing -29 temperatures and -70 degree windchills! So, they probably think we are crazy down here! We are used to it being hot as hell down here….temperatures of 100 plus in the summer and average temperatures of 63 degrees in January. We ain’t made for all this here! Lol Which is why the city of Houston shut down!! Like…grocery store shelves were empty, schools were closed, only four people were driving on the roads–Houston wasn’t playing any games. Some non-native Houstonians were really shocked that the city would shut down like this for the little “snow”/ ice we received but the truth of the matter is that…we needed to shut down, because Houstonians (except me and few others) can not drive. Nor do we have all the infrastructure needed to support super cold weather down here…we are a hot town (literally and figuratively) and it’s in the best interest of all citizens to shut the city down. I’m praying for my friends in Atlanta—many of who are/were stranded due to the snow storm there.
So how do you survive a snow day in Houston?
1. Be sure to go to the grocery store a couple of days before and pickup necessities (donuts, liquor, tissue, etc.)
2. Sleep in.
3. Watch hours of recorded reality tv…because weather news will be all over live television.
4. Talk with your friend on the phone…for 10 hours. (This totally happened.)
5. Try to Do homework.
My snow day was pretty un-eventful–I stayed inside all day and ate junk food. ‘Twas pretty fun.

I grew up in Houston and I remember the one time it “snowed” and stuck long enough for us to make a snowman about 6 inches high. Good times! We had over 250 car accidents between midnight and noon here in Austin yesterday morning due to “wintry mix” precipitation, heck yeah we have to close things down. Definitely thinking about the folks in Atlanta.
I am about an hour and a half from you…my stepdaughter lives in Houston…..I’m with you on the try to do homework….I got as far as making vocab flashcards and spent the rest of the day napping and watching movies…..
This post made me laugh the entire time I was reading it. It’s really Brione-ish bahahaha. And 10 hours is A LOT of talking!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
