I’ve been hearing a lot about this song and how it’s bringing attention to the perils of raising a daughter. Being that I have 5 younger sisters, meaning my parents have 6 daughters, I decided to check it out. I’m really not sure how accurate the video is. It really upsets me when people, always talk about how raising a daughter is such a tumultuous task. Many different people have come up to my parents and said, “Ooh, I feel sorry for you, raising all these girls” or “Lord. have mercy 6 girls!” Frankly, I don’t agree with the portrayal of young girls in the video. Not all girls are fast and not all girls sneak out with tattooed guys. I’m about to be 20, I have a sister who is 19,  another who is 18, one is 15, and twin sisters who are 12. We are all in school  or college, we are all active in church, we are all abstinent and all around good children. I know that there are definitely  girls who fall into this category and are the spitting image of “Destiny” in the video, however, I  think that parents should be worried just as much about their sons. Often time I hear, “Oh, he’s a boy” or “Let him be a man.” These phrases are why there are young men like the ones in this video. While, Nas is trying to instill some morals into his daughters, the young man she is seeing, is saying to let him be a man. I’m not a parent, however, I definitely think that we must (try our best)parent effectively and equally. This is just my two cents! Enjoy the video!
